THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: THE ORIGINAL THANKSGIVING, RICARDO ROMO’S TEJANO REPORT ON A REUNION OF THE GALLISTA GALLERY ARTISTS, TALES OF TORRES REMINDING US TO “TAKE HIM AT HIS WORD” AND AMALIA ORTIZ READS “I REMEMBER.”
This week we celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday but reminding ourselves of the true first Thanksgiving which was celebrated by the Pilgrims but rather by the Spanish explorer Juan de Oñate and his party in what is today El Paso, Texas way back in 1598. Check out this more accurate look at a celebrated moment in American history.
Also this week, Ricardo Romo’s Tejano Report updates us on a reunion of some of San Antonio’s most accomplished artists, a group that found their first expression at Joe López’s Gallista Gallery. Ricardo showcases several of these artists and explains what the reunion at the Docks Gallery was all about.
Luis Torres watched the Univision interview with Donald Trump and was aghast at Trump blatantly telling interviewer Enrique Acevedo his plans for America if he is reelected in 2024. Well, Torres warns us that forewarned is for-armed and that we should take Trump at his word and do our duty in 2024. Watch out!
And lastly, Tejana poet Amalia Ortiz reads her poem “I Remember,” recalling memories from her childhood in South Texas.
Enjoy Your Week on Latinopia!
