THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: JUAN GONZÁLES ON RESCINDING DACA, HOLLYWOOD IN HAVANA 2, MARK GUERRERO’S CHICANO MUSIC CHRONICLES WITH RENÉ AND RENÉ AND SERGIO TRONCOSO’S AWARD FOR BEST BOOK OF FIRST FICTION.
Hey, hey my peeps, I’m here for another Latinopia week! In July President Trump rescinded the DACA provisions initiated by his predecessor President Obama. What will happen now? Juan Gonzáles gives us his views on the future of immigration reform in this insightful interview. Also this week, we visit with Carol A. Wells as she leads us through Hollywood in Havana 2., an exciting look at the exhibit Hollywood in Havana: Five Decades of Cuban Posters Promoting U.S. Films. The exhibit runs through January 7, 2018 at the Pasadena Museum of California Art. Don’t miss it!
And now with the beginning of December, musicologist and musician Mark Guerrero brings us an in-depth interview with René Ornelas, half of the sixties Latino duo René and René. Do you remember “Angelito” and “Lo Mucho Que Te Quiero?” Check out Mark’s interview every evening this month at 7PM on the Chicano Radio Network and enjoy Chicano music 24/7 right here at Latinopia!
And author Sergio Troncoso has endowed a special literary award at the Texas Institute of Letters literary award. The Troncoso Award will be given to a first novel or short-story collection by an author from Texas or writing about Texas. The publication date of the work must be in 2017. The deadline is January 2, 2018.
Enjoy your week on Latinopia!
