THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: TREVIÑO AND RAZO EYEWITNESS TO HISTORY, LATINO PHOTOGRAPHERS AT THE SILVER DOLLAR BAR, RICARDO ROMO ON LATINO ART VIRTUOSOS AND MARK GUERRERO’S CHICANO MUSIC CHRONICLES WITH THE EASTSIDE SOUND.
This week we cover a special event. On December 4th the California Chicano News Media Association (CCNMA) convened an online discussion about the events surrounding the death of acclaimed newsman Ruben Salazar. The panel consisted of Joe Razo who was a reporter and photographer for La Raza Magazine and was present to document the events at the Silver Dollar Bar which resulted in Salazar’s death. Also on the panel was director and filmmaker Jesús Treviño, who was a reporter for KCET in 1970 and reported on the 16-day Inquest into the death of Ruben Salazar. The panel was moderated by veteran Los Angeles Times reporter and columnist Robert Lopez. Latinopia is proud to share the online discussion. Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y24rcFgXTC0
Accompanying the Eyewitness to History streaming discussion is a video showing the work of Joe Razo and the late Raul Ruiz, who took the historic and infamous photos outside the Silver Dollar Bar depicting the killing of Ruben Salazar. This look at the historic Silver Dollar Bar photos is narrated by photgrapher Luis Garza.
Also this week, Ricardo Romo returns with his Tejano Report. This week he looks at art virtuosos from Austin, Texas. The report looks at the work of various artists showcased at the La Pena art gallery on Congress Street in Austin.
