THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: CELEBRATING THE HOLIDAYS WITH LATINOPIA HEROES: MAGGIE RIVAS RODRÍGUEZ, ROSALIO MUÑOZ , DR. ARTURO ROSALES AND ACTRESS LUPE ONTIVEROS.
Felíz Navidad and Joyous Holidays to all Latinopians! Whatever holiday you celebrate we join with you and this week we take a special look at four heroes of our community, four individuals who, through their life and work, have given so much back to the Latino community and, in the case of two of them who are still living , continue to contribute and make our community a better place.
We’re talking about Professor of Journalism and director of the VOCES archival project, Dr. Maggie Rivas Rodriguez; pioneering civil rights activist and long time community organizer, Rosalio Muñoz; accomplished historian and author Dr. Arturo Rosales (1942-2017) , and actress and social activist Lupe Ontiveros (1942-2012) and eminent scholar and founder of Chicano Studies in Texas, Dr. Philip de Ortego y Gasca.. All of them, in their own unique way, have made the lives of Latinos significantly better because of their life work.
Latinopia is proud to call attention to these Latino heroes and their lives. As you celebrate the holidays and give thanks for all that life has given us, be also thankful for the contributions made by these very special Latinopia Heroes.
