THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: HAPPY NEW YEAR! NANCY DE LOS SANTOS REZA ON SAY A LITTLE PRAYER, THE LONG JOURNEY TO MAKE SAY A LITTLE PRAYER, RICARDO ROMO ON WHY WE LOVE ART, ANGELA VALENZUELA ON SUBTRACTIVE SCHOOLING.
It’s the end of another year and we end it with a terrific interview with screenwriter and producer Nancy De Los Santos Reza on her new film, Say A Little Prayer. This is a romantic comedy that follows three best friends and entrepreneurial women who seek to find their ideal mate by saying a special prayer to Saint Anthony, the Saint of lost things. The film has a line up of three terrific actresses, Vanessa Vasquez, Jackie Cruz, Vivian Lamolli and a commanding lead actor in Luis Fonsi. Nancy spoke to Latinopia about the film and also how it was the product of many years f development. Check out our two Latinopia videos.
Also this week, Ricardo Romo asks the question, Why do we love art so much? His response, as you might expect, involves showcasing some fine art by Latinos.
And our guest blogger, Dr. Angela Valenzuela, recalls an early published work, “Subtractive Schooling: U.S. Mexican Youth and the Politics of Caring.”The Harvard Educational Review has said of the book, “Valenzuela’s thoughtful and thorough analysis of Latino/a students’ experiences in a large urban school powerfully defines the educational challenges facing Latino immigrant and U.S.-born youth and outlines important elements for transforming their academic experiences.”
And lastly, we end the year with one of Sergio Hernandez’s classic New Year cartoons wishing us all a Happy New Year!
Enjoy your New Year’s partying and we look forward to serving up another year of Latinopia!
