THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: A SPECIAL VALENTINE FROM QUETZAL, SAL BALDENEGRO ON SPECIAL ED – WE GET IT FROM BOTH SIDES, JOSÉ ANGEL GUTIÉRREZ ON EL MOVIMIENTO, PART TWO AND MARK GUERRERO’S CHICANO MUSIC CHRONICLES WITH LEROY “LONNIE” JORDON.
HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY! It’s that time of year Latinopians–roses, chocolates and Cupid’s arrows. We celebrate Valentine’s Day with a new video featuring the music of East Los Angeles’ stellar music group Quetzal. Check out this original and poignant love song, Todo Lo Que Tengo (All That I Have). This is a love song that Martha Gonzalez, lead singer of the group wrote for her husband band founder Quetzal Flores. You just sit yourself down with your significant other, turn the lights down low, pour yourselves a glass of wine and sit back and listen. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
Sal Baldenegro returns with his Political Salsa y Mas blog. This week he looks at current threat by the Trump administration to a long=standing policy protecting Latino children who are mentally challenged. But Sal goes all the way back to remind us of decades of discrimination that Latinos have suffered, being placed in mentally retarded classes only because Spanish was their first language. Watchalo!
This week we feature the second installment on our interview with legendary Chicano leader and founder of the Las Raza Unida political Party, José Angel Gutiérrez. Check out Gutiérrez’s thoughtful assessment of the Chicano Movement, where we did right and where we went wrong.
And don’t miss Mark Guerrero’s interview with rock legend Lonnie Jordan of the group WAR. Mark’s interview is so cool and not to be missed. It airs on Latinopia every night in February at 7PM. Just click on the thumbnail at Latinopia and listen up!
Enjoy your week on Latinopia!
