THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: RICARDO ROMO’S TEJANO REPORT ON LESSONS FROM THE GREAT DEPRESSION, FRANCISCO BALDERRAMA ON THE GREAT DEPRESSION AND EMMA TENAYUCA SPEAKS ABOUT THE PECAN SHELLERS STRIKE AND CONJUNTO LOS POCHOS WITH “MARGIE.”
We open this week with Dr. Ricardo Romo’s Tejano Report reflecting on the lessons to be learned from the Great Depression in the midst of today’s pandemic. Romo points to infrastructure building undertaken by the Roosevelt Administration and what the Biden administration might consider doing. To fill out our understanding of Romo’s essay, check out our video on the Great Depression and its impact on Latinos as explained by historian Francisco Balderrama. And also this week, we repost an interview with legendary social activist Emma Tenayuca, interviewed as part of the documentary Yo Soy ( I Am) back in 1985.
Lastly, we visit with Conjunto Los Pochos and their original song, “Margie.”
Enjoy your week on Latinopia!
