THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: ERIN GO BRAGH! SAL BALDENEGRO ON MEXICAN ST. PATRICK’S DAY, MARK DAY’S THE SAN PATRICIOS, MARIO GARCÍA ON REWRITING THE CHICANO MOVEMENT, BOBBI MURRAY’S IRISH SODA BREAD RECIPE AND A CHICANO IN BELFAST!
This week is our celebration of S. Patrick’s day and the Chicano/Mexicano/Irish connection. Blogger Sal Baldenegro’s Political Salsa y Más reminds us of the long affinity between Mexicanos and the Irish, going back to the celebrated San Patrico Batallion. We repost a clip from filmmaker Mark Day’s documentary on the San Patricio Batallion and the celebrations that still go on in Mexico. And highlighting the continued Chicano/Irish connection, be sure to check out the story of Chicano muralist Victor Ochoa painting a mural in Belfast, Ireland. Also this week we post Bobbi Murray’s great Jalapeno Soda bread recipe, scrumptious!
Also this week, check out two new pláticas with Dr. Mario García who has co-edited, with Ellen McCracken, a new collection of essays titled Rewriting the Chicano Movement: New Histories of Activism in the Civil Rights Era. Dr. García also highlights an article by Tiffany Jasmin Gonzalez on the activist role of women during the Chicano Movement.
Enjoy your Irish Mexicano week on Latinopia!
