THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: DIANE RODRIGUEZ ON “PERFECTA,” ROSE PORTILLO IN “PERFECTA,” GASPAR ENRIGUEZ ART RETROSPECTIVE AT THE EL PASO MUSEUM OF ART AND SERGIO HERNÁNDEZ ON TRUMP’S “EMERGENCY DECLARATION.”
This week we showcase the work of two enormously talented creators: playwright and director Diane Rodriguez and actress and director Rose Portillo. They coincide with the new theatrical piece “Perfecta” which Diane wrote and which Rose portrays in a one-woman show. Check out the interview with Diane on how she came to write the piece and how it may signal new understandings of Latino male/female identity. And then check out an excerpt from the play itself to see Rose Portillo’s tour-de-force performance.
Also this week, we visit with El Paso-based artist Gaspar Enriquez as he walks us through a retrospective of his life work at the El Paso Museum of Art. This is an incredible exhibit that captures the spirit of and diversity of a lifetime of students whom he has taught and portayed artistically in his work. The art is magnificent. Check it out!
And lastly our dear friend and collaborator Sergio Hernandez inspires us with another one of his awesome cartoons. This one is on Trump’s new Emergency Declaration.
Enjoy your week on Latinopia!
