THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: POETRY MONTH!
April is national poetry month and we celebrate by celebrating some of our most acclaimed poets! We offer Ire’ne Lara Silva reading her poem, “Eaters of Flowers.” Ire’ne is a poet based in Texas whose latest collection of poems is titled Cuicatcalli House of Song. She reads here her poem “Eaters of Flowers” at the Tia Chucha bookstore in Sylmar, California.
We also showcase legendary poet and artist José Montoya as he reads his classic poem, “El Louie.” José wrote this poem, based on a true life war hero from the pachuco era, way back in the 1960s. But the poem still resonates today.
From Arizona poet Alberto “Tito” Rios reads his poem, “Returning to the cat.” Rios is both a poet and a narrative writer but his poem captures his poetic style and his attention to detail that might otherwise be overlooked or forgotten. And isn’t that what poetry is about?
Xochitl Julisa Bermejo reads her poem, “Our Lady of the Water Gallons” which takes a decidedly current and thoughtful look at a social issue proving that poetry need not be in the clouds but rather have relevance to today’s world.
And, of course, Dr. Ricardo Romo returns with his Tejano Report. This week he looks at the photography of Graciela Iturbide.
Enjoy your week on Latinopia and spread the word!
