Lots to absorb this week on Latinopia! We begin with a look at Rubén Guevara’s new memoir “Confessions of a Radical Doo Wop Singer.” Guevara collaborated with Frank Zappa in the 1960s and created the celebrated doo wop band Ruben and the Jets. Guevara has come a long way since those days, producing albums, performing as lead singer in numerous bands and creating his own unique performance art pieces as well as spoken word and poetry. Guevara spoke to Latinopia about his most recent work a memoir detailing his long life of creativity and commitment to the Latino community he loves so much. Check out the interview with the funkahuatl on his new book! And as a sidebar, checkout his performance piece “Con Safos,” performed with with the help of legendary Doors drummer John Densmore.
Sal Baldenegro returns with his Political Salsa blog, this week he looks at the nefarious activity of emails and how they impact us. He compares the now with the old days of political organizing, what can we learn?
And in response to Trump’s bashing of Latino’s regular blogger Dr. Alvaro Huerta takes a page from James Baldwin’s I am not Your Negro to remind us that Alvaro is NOT Your Wetback!
