THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: LITTLE JOE HERNÁNDEZ ON MUSICAL INFLUENCES, CHICANO PARK PARTS ONE AND TWO, RSIING SOULS, SINGING SCORPIONS AND ANGELA ORTIZ PHOTO OF THE WEEK.
Hola my peeps! This week marks the 46th anniversary of the takeover and founding of Chicano park in San Diego’s Logan Heights barrio. We celebrate with posting of two videos telling the story of this heroic struggle by the Chicano community to create a park for their children in spite of efforts by the city. One of the groups that supported the takeover and creation of Chicano Park was the music group Los Alacranes, who wrote and performed the song, “Chicano Park.” We post here an excerpt from a forthcoming documentary on this music group. Also this week, a video interview with Texas music legend Little Joe Hernández of Little Joe y La Familiar. Born to a family of cotton pickers in Temple, Texas Little Joe tells us about the early musical influences that led him to create his unique musical sound. And Angela Ortiz’s Photo of the week this week is “Eagle Rock Palms.”
Enjoy!
