THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: WHAT’S CINCO DE MAYO ALL ABOUT? CARMEN TAFOLLA HONORED BY THE TEXAS INSTITUTE OF LETTERS, LOURDES PORTILLO PRESENTE AND RICARDO ROMO’S TEJANO REPORT ON LATINO ART PRINTS AT THE SAN ANTONIO MUSEUM OF ART.
Happy Cinco de Mayo!
And in case you’ve forgotten what is being celebrated on this holiday, Latinopia guest blogger Dr. Margarito J. Garcia III reminds us in this Latinopia Event Profile on Cinco de Mayo! Check it out!
This week we celebrate the accomplishments of poet and prose author, actor and playwright, Carmen Tafolla, who is being honored this week-end by the Texas Institute of Letters with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Tafolla has been active in literary circles for decades, including being a past president of the prestigious Texas Institute of Letters, whose membership includes the who’s-who of Texas writers from poets and novelists, to journalists and song writers. We celebrate Tafolla’s accomplishments with a career summary and a video of her comments on the need for inclusion of Latinos into the American literary canon. Check it out.
This week we also mourn the loss of a phenomenal creative and activist documentary filmmaker, Lourdes Portillo. We honor Lourdes as a Latinopia Hero! Check out her accomplishments and legacy.
Ricardo Romo returns with his Tejano Report. This week he looks at a new print show at the San Antonio Museum of Art. The show features prints by some of the most accomplished Latino artists including Santa Barraza, Luis Jimenez and Vicente Valdez. As usual Ricardo guides us through the exhibit with a commentary about who the artists are.
Enjoy your week on Latinopia y no se pongan todos locos celebrando el Cinco.
