Ooo! Lots of good stuff this week and sorry we’re a little late with this week’s posting. We begin with the full and complete story of legendary social activist, diplomat, labor organizer, poet and author Dr. Ernesto Galarza. Set in five episodes, this video tells the story of Galarza from his humble beginnings in Mexico to his days as a student at Occidental College, Stanford University and Columbia University, to his role as key diplomat in Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s Good Neighbor police to Latin America during World War Two to his activism creating the first union for farm workers in America. Wow, what a life! Check it out!
This week, Ricardo Romo’s Tejano Report reviews a comprehensive exhibit at the Albuquerque Museum of Art of the photographic and multimedia work of Delilah Montoya. Montoya’s theme dwell on Chicana imagery, and striking multi-media works based on photography. Really cool stuff.
And complimenting the Montoya exhibit is a Latinopia video with acclaimed Texas artist Cesar Martinez who walks us through an exhibit of borderland art, including and highlighting the Photographic work of Diana Molina and of Delilah Montoya. Not to be missed!
And our regular blogger musician, writer and performer and music historian Mark Guerrero returns with his East L.A. Music Stories. his week Mark interviews Nancy Sanchez whose music is described as Mariachi fusion. Check out Nancy talking about her love of genres from mariachis to jazz.
