THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: LUIS TORRES ON THE ERASURE OF CESAR CHAVEZ, RICARDO ROMO ON MISTURA A PERUVIAN DRAMA, LOUIE PEREZ ON ORIGINS OF LOS LOBOS, AND LIZ GONZALEZ’S “CONFESSIONS OF A PSEUDO-CHICANA.”
Luis Torres returns with his Tales of Torres blog. This week he looks at the controversy surrounding the disclosure of child abuse by farm labor icon Cesar Chavez. On the occasion of the release of a new documentary about the iconic music group Los Lobos, and the revelation that references to Chavez were edited out of the film, Torres asks the question about the erasure of historical figures.
We compliment the Torres blog with an interview with Los Lobos front man Louie Perez as he explains how the group first came together back in the early 1970s. Check out Latinopia Music Louie Perez on Los Lobos.
Also this week, Ricardo Romo returns with his Tejano Report. But this time instead of writing about pictorial art, Romo’s art looks at a recent Peruvian motion picture, Mistura, set in Peru in the 1960s. Check it out!
And last but not least, we visit with poet Liz Gonzalez as she reads her poem, “Confessions of a Pseudo Chicana.”
Enjoy your week o Latinopia!
