This week we are celebrating the success of two extraordinary brothers, Dan and Mark Guerrero. Both the sons of the legendary father of Chicano music Lalo Guerrero, and both have succeeded with enriching our Latino community, Mark through his music and music archiving and Dan through his stage and television productions. This week they will be honored by the Los Angeles based Plaza de Cultura y Artes on Thursday, May 28th. The event will include the participation of he father of Chicano Teatro, Luis Valdez, and Louie Perez of the music group Los Lobos. We post Mark singing one of his original songs, “Nobody Told Me,’ and a video clip from Dan ‘s performance of his original play, Gaytino. Enjoy!
Also this week we have an interview with Chicano author Ricardo Lira Acuña speaking about his latest work, a novel titled Prodigal. The autobiographical novel chronicles what happens when a teenage Mexican American who was raised in an Arizona border town wins a scholarship to attend a preppy East Coast high school. We complement the interview with Ricardo reading a passage from the novel.
Ricardo Romo returns with his Tejano Report. This week he reports on a fund raiser for SAY Sí, a youth art program in San Antonio’s Westside founded by the late artist Sam Coronado. On June 13, SAY Sí will host an art fundraiser with donation of art works supplied by Dr. Romo and his wife Harriet, who donated countless art works to the art fundraiser.
