THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: CELEBRATING CARTOONIST LALO ALCARAZ, RICARDO ROMO’S TEJANO REPORT ON LATINOS INFLUENCING THE NEW YORK ART SCENE, NEW YORK’S MUSEO DEL BARRIO AND MIS PENSAMIENTOS WITH ALFREDO SANTOS .
Headlining Latinopia this week is the celebration of acclaimed cartoonist Lalo Alcaraz winning the 2025 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Book and Journalism awards. This award follows a string of awards and recognitions which our blogger Bobbi Murray reviews in this Latinopia Hero salute! Well earned, Lalo, and we’re so proud of you!!
This week we visit the New York art scene via our travel guide Ricardo Romo and his wife Harriet. We begin with his Tejano Report on how Latinos are influencing the New York art scene with a visit to the Hispanic Society of America and El Museo del Barrio. While major museums like the Guggenheim and Metropolitan are well known, we have our own Latino museums and galleries and they are making an impact on what New Yorkers view as art. Check out Ricardo’s essay.
Complimenting Ricardo’s survey of art in New York, we repost a video visit to the Museo del Barrio revealing its wide collection of Taino art as well as contemporary at by Puerto Ricans and Dominicans.
And last but not least, Austin-based Alfredo Santos delivers another of his Mis Pensamientos blogs filling us in on doing in Austin and surrounding Texas cities.
Enjoy your week on Latinopia!
