THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: LITTLE JOE ON COLLABORATING WITH WILLIE NELSON, SAL BALDENEGRO ON CASA MARÍA TEACHING THE EVANGELICALS HOW TO BE CHRISTIAN, RICARDO ROMO’S TEJANO REPORT ON XICANX DREAMERS AT SAN ANTONIO’S CONTEMPORARY AT BLUE STAR EXHIBIT AND MARK GUERRERO’S EAST LOS ANGELES STORIES WITH NANCY SANCHEZ OF THE LAS CHORIZERAS.
This week we showcase Little Joe Hernandez speaking about his collaboration with country music legend Willie Nelson. What began as a tour for Farm Air in America led to Little Joe and Willie collaborating on an album of classic Spanish language songs. Unfortunately once the album was produced, the IRS swept in and confiscated the album along with other Willie Nelson archival materials until his tax bill was paid. Once the bill was paid, the IRS couldn’t locate the masters for the Little Joe/Willie Nelson collaboration and they were lost to history. A sad loss for all of us! Check out Little Joe talking about working with Willie.
Also this week, Sal Baldenegro takes a look at the hypocrisy evident in the actions by many Evangelicals who have forgotten the true meaning of the gospel and he highlights the work of Tucson based Casa María Catholic Worker House. The folks there are truly walking the talk.
Ricardo Romo’s Tejano Report looks at a recent exhibit at the San Antonio Contemporary at Blue Star titled Dreamers and Changemakers. He profiles several of the artists in the exhibit: José Esquivel, Judy Baca, Raul Servin and Carlos Fresquez.
And last but not least, Mark Guerrero’s East Los Angeles Stories returns. This time he interview Nancy Sanchez of the music croup Las Chorizeras.
Enjoy your week on Latinopia!
