THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: SAL BALDENEGRO’S POLITICAL SALSA Y MÁS ON “THIS IS NOT WHO WE ARE,” MARK GUERRERO’S ELA MUSIC STORIES INTERVIEWS BOBBY RODRIGUEZ, RICARDO ROMO’S TEJANO REPORT ON JOSÉ ESQUIVEL AND ROLANDO HINOJOSA READS “THE OLD REVOLUTIONARIES.”
A lot of variety this week. We begins with Sal Baldenegro taking a look at the phrase “This is not who we are,” and how it masks a history of events and actions in American history proving the contrary. Well worth reading. Also this Mark Guerrero brings us another of his East Los Angeles Music Stories. This week he interviews celebrated trumpeter Bobby Rodriguez who has played from east L.A. sixties bands to Quincy Jones and Ray Charles.
Also this week, Ricardo Romo’s Tejano Report surveys the life long art of San Antonio artist José Esquivel.
And lastly, we post a new video with legendary author, the “dean of Chicano authors,” Rolando Hinojosa Smith. He reads here from his novel The Valley, a selection called The Old Revolutionaries.
Enjoy your week on Latinopia!
