THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: 13 YEARS AND MAGU IS STILL WITH US! MAGU AND HIS ART, CHICANO ARTISTS PAY TRIBUTE IN SEARCH OF MAGULANDIA AND EAST LOS STREETSCAPERS CREATE POMONA MAGU MURAL AND RICARDO ROMO ON THE MUSEUM OF SOUTH TEXAS AND THE ART WORK OF NOE GARCIA AND JESUS BAUTISTA MOROLES.
It has been thirteen years since Latinopia lost its dear friend and profound master artist Gilbert “Magu” Lujan. We honor his memory this week with a reprise of several videos which showcase his works and his vision. The first showcases Magu at his finest, showing off his sculptures, his passion for lowrider cars and his “monitos.” The second video is the homage created by the who’s who of Chicano artists who paid tribute to Magu when he passed away in 2011 by depicting him in their own unique way. The third video showcases another “Magulandia” trip , this one a mural created in Pomona, Magu’s old stomping grounds, by the muralist team of Wayne Healy and David Botello, also known as East Los Streetscapers.
And in this week’s Tejano Report, Dr. Ricardo Romo visits the Museum of South Texas in Corpus Christi which showcases the art work of Noe Garcia and Jesus Bautista Moroles. These works, many of which are based on the King Ranch of South Texas, are truly memorable. Check them out!
Enjoy Your week on Latinopia!
