THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: MUSIC, MUSIC, MUSIC! MARK GUERRERO WITH “NOBODY TOLD ME,” QUETZAL WITH “MIGRA,” ANGELA ROA WITH ‘WE FACE THE STORM,” JULIO MONTERO WITH “LUCHADOR,” AND LOS POCHOS WITH “PASO DEL NORTE.”
This week we showcase four performers with songs about the immigrant experience and political struggle. Mark Guerrero’s “Nobody Told Me,” looks at the plight of the immigrant worker in the United States. Mark is an accomplished singer musician composer who hosts the podcast Chicano Music Chronicles which can be found on Latinopia.com
The struggles of the immigrant community are echoed in a performance of “La Miga” by the Eastside music group Quetzal which features singer Martha Gonzalez.
Chilean singer and songwriter Angela Roa sings her original song, “Se Enfrenta La Tempestad,” (We face the Storm). She is accompanied by Fernando Losada, Rich Silva and Thiago Winterstein.
Julio Montero underscores the spirit of struggle and perseverance of We face The Storm,” in his original song, “Luchador,” (Freedom Fighter).
Last but not the least, the Conjunto group Los Pochos performs a traditional song of the immigrant experience, Paso del Norte,” referring to the the journey so many immigrants make from Mexico crossing into the United States at El Paso, Texas, the “Pass to the North.”
