What up supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Raza! This week we introduce a new monthly blog on Latinopia: Pensamientos with Alfredo Santos. Alfredo is the editor publisher of La Voz, a monthly publication out of Austin, Texas, and his regular column “Pensamientos” will appear on Latinopia every month. Also this week, another regular blogger, Mark Guerrero, brings us this month’s Chicano Music Chronicles: Chris Montez. For you youngster that may not remember, Chris Montez is a rock and roll legend whose hits Let’s Dance and Call Me were billboard hits of the sixties. Here, Mark Guerrero interviews Chris about his long career and a recent documentary about his career and life.
Also this week we remember acclaimed Chicano artist Gilbert “Magu” Lujan on the anniversary of his birthday. Magu is considered one of the foremost Chicano artist who, along with Frank Romero, Carlos Almaraz and Beto De La Rocha, formed the art collective Los Four, the first Chicano artists to show at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Check out our three videos on Magu, one profiling his work, another homage to his work by Chicano community artists and a third homage “Letter to Magu,” by fellow artist Wayne Healy .
And last but not least, don’t miss another Sergio Hernández cartoon: “Karma” about the recent conviction of Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
