THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: RICHARD VARGAS ON HOW A CIVILIZATION BEGINS AND CHICANO VIKING, JOSÉ UMPIERRE ON BAD BUNNY IN PUERTO RICO, JOHN MARTINEZ ON TAKE ME TO THE OCEAN AND RICARDO ROMO ON MARTHA SANCHEZ.
Lots on our platter this week, mi gente. We begin with a visit to a Florycanto gathering at the home of author and literary activist Michael Sedano where we find poets Richard Vargas and John Martinez reciting. Vargas nos avienta with a poignant selection from his new collection of poems, “How A Civilization Begins.” The poem is “Labor of Love.” He also recites “Chicano Viking, Paramont Jr High, 1969.” Poet John Martinez recites “Take me to the Ocean.” Cool poems, check them out!
Also this week, José Umpierre brings us up to date on Benito Martinez Ocasiom AKA Bad Bunny, and the splash he is making in Puerto Rico, as elsewhere in the world. In spite of his salty lyrics his stand on gay pride, the environment and human rights has prompted the Archbishop of San Juan to say he is “faultless.”
Lastly, Ricardo Romo’s Tejano Report brings us a look at the work of artist Martha Sanchez. Sheck out her poignant impressionistic renderings.
As always enjoy your week on Latinopia!
