THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: PUERTO RICO’S WATER EMERGENCY! SALOMON BALDENEGRO ON FEMINISTS BEFORE THEIR TIME PART TWO, RICARDO ROMO’S TEJANO REPORT ON THE ART OF THE RAMIREZ SISTERS AND EL PROFE QUEZADA ON ROLANDO HINOJOSA’S RIVER OF BLOOD.
We got lots this week on Latinopia. We open with the water crisis in Puerto Rico. Our man on the scene José Umpierre reports on his personal experiences and that of the larger community in San Juan and the island. The plight of Puerto Ricans on the island doesn’t look like it will be resolved quickly but, as usual, el Zocotroco offers us some upbeat strength amid the chaos. We offer his observations in Spanish and English. Check it out!
Also this week, Tucson-based Salomon Baldenegro returns with his Political Salsa y Más blog. This week he offers us the second part of his reflections on a generation of Arizona women who were feminists before their time. Makes you want to see who in your neighborhood may be leaving a landmark presence without you even knowing about it. Watchalo!
Ricardo Romo’s Tejano Report looks at the art of Manola and Mara Ramirez whose exhibition, Había Una Vez, is at Centro Cultural Aztlán in San Antonio. As usual Don Ricardo offers us not just a look at the art but fills us in on the backstory of the artists and the vision they bring to their art. In this case it is particularly fascinating since it is art produced by two sisters!
And El Profe Quezada brings our attention to an article written by the later author and Texas legend Rolando Hinojosa-Smith. Rolando wrote an article denouncing the treatment of Mexicanos in Texas by the Rinches (Texas Rangers). Don Gilberto bring uS a personal family link to this story. Miralo púes!
Enjoy your week on Latinopia!
