THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: RICHARD VARGAS LEAVING A TIP AT THE BLUE MOON MOTEL, VARGAS READING TEAMWORK, RICARDO ROMO’S TEJANO REPORT ON ARTE DEL PUEBLO AND MIS PENSAMIENTOS WITH ALFREDO SANTOS.
Literary blogger Michael Sedano (la bloga https://labloga.blogspot.com/) reconvened the florycanto poetry reading tradition last week by hosting a reading at the home of poet Dr. Thelma Reyna. Among those attending the open mike session was acclaimed poet Richard Vargas visiting from Wisconsin. We post here Vargas reading from his latest collection of poems Leaving a Tip at the Blue Moon Motel. As is pointed out in the blog about the event ( https://labloga.blogspot.com/ ) Vargas is concerned with giving a voice to the working class. Many of the poems reflect this intent. Be sure to check out the two videos of the reading.
Also this week Ricardo Romo returns with his Tejano Report. This week he looks at the publication of a new book on Chicano/Latino art Arte Del Pueblo which showcases the photography of Dr. Frederick R. Preston and the accompanying poetry by poet laureate emeritus Carmen Tafolla. The book explores the wide range of public art available to view for free in the San Antonio area. The photography and poetry are inspiring and guaranteed to get people out into the streets to admire this public arte del pueblo.
And last but not least Alfredo Santos, editor/publisher of La Voz, returns with his Mis Pensamientos column giving us the lowdown on what happening in Texas this month. Be sure to visit the website to read the entire August issue of La Voz: http://www.lavoznewspapers.com
