THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: THE ART OF SALOMÓN HUERTA, SALOMÓN HUERTA ON THE MYSTERY OF ART, RICARDO ROMO ON JUDY BACA’S GREAT WALL MURAL, AND EL PROFE QUEZADA NOS DICE WITH “CON SAFO” AND JUDY BACA IN HER OWN WORDS.
We off a lot of exciting art this week! We begin with the art of Salomón Huerta. In the first video we visit with Huerta as he explains two of his signature series one depicting individuals with their backs to the viewer and the other series of paintings highlighting stylized renderings of house exteriors. In our second Huerta video, he speculates on what drives artists to strive for perfection and what makes for a great work of art. Don’t miss these two important art videos.
Also this week, Ricardo Romo gives us perhaps the most thorough review of the imagery in Judy Baca’s landmark Great Wall mural. Ricardo has captured the detail of the histories being told by this epic mural that stretches miles along the Tijunga Wash in the San Fernando Valley of California. His narrative about these mural depictions is not to be missed. Accompanying Ricardo’s tour of the mural we repost the artist Judy Baca in her own words.
And last, but certainly not least, we introduce a new regular blogger to Latinopia: El Profe Quezada. Scholar and writer Gilberto Quezada will be offering his views on Latinopia as part of El Profe Quezada Nos Dice. This week he looks at the phrase Con Safo (or its variant, Con Safos). Check it out!
Enjoy your week on Latinopia!
