THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: DR. ALVARO HUERTA ON “A CHICANA/O MANIFESTO ON COMMUNITY ORGANIZING,” DR. JUAN GÓMEZ-QUINOÑES ON 47TH ANNIVERSARY OF RUBEN SALAZAR’S DEATH, AND VIDEOS: 1970 CHICANO MORATORIUM, 2010 CHICANO MORATORIUM ANNIVERSARY, 1969 MORATORIUM IN THE RAIN, and SERG HERNÁNDEZ ON YOUR BRAIN ON DRUGS.
What up Latinopians! This week we remember the 1970 Chicano Moratorium march and riot that resulted in the death of newsman Ruben Salazar. Dr. Juan Gómez-Quiñones makes a convincing argument for opening up a new investigation into Salazar’s death. Dr. Alvaro Huerta, meanwhile, offers suggestions on how to (and how not to) organize community activists in his “manifesto.” Two important thoughtful essay much worth the reading. Also this week we reprise Latinopia videos on the Chicano Moratorium. First a report on the event itself, then a look at the 2010 anniversary march and celebration and also a look at the 1969 Moratorium in the Rain which preceded the August 29th event by six months. And of course no week would be complete without a Serg Hernández cartoon. This week he looks at what you brain might look like under a neo-Nazis gaze.
Check out and enjoy your week on Latinopia!
