THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: ROSE PORTILLO AS “PERFECTA,” RICARDO ROMO ON THE SCULPTURES OF VERONICA CASTILLO, DIANE RODRIGUEZ ON WRITING “PERFECTA,” AND MARK GUERRERO’S EAST LA MUSIC STORIES WITH GEORGE OCHOA.
This week we cover theater, art and music.
We begin with Rose Portillo performing an excerpt from her one person play “Perfecta.” Written by the late playwright, producer and actress Diane Rodriguez, this one one woman show depicts the struggles of a unique Chicana personality, mother and free spirit. Check it out. And with this video we post an interview with the late Diane Rodriguez as she explains her approach to writing the character of “Perfecta.”
Ricardo Romo’s Tejano Report looks at the masterful sculptures of artist Veronica Castillo. On June 18, 2022, at the Washington, D.C. Smithsonian National Museum of American History, Verónica Castillo was one of the selected artists featured in the 4,500-square-foot Molina Family Latino Gallery. Check out her cool “Tree of Life”
And also this week, Mark Guerrero’s East Los Angeles Stories returns. This week he interviews musician and songwriter George Ochoa known for his work with sixties bands Cannibal and the Headhunters, Yaqui and Redbone. Don’ miss Mark’s nostalgic remembrance of great music.
