THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: HATCH CHILE SEASON! SAL BALDENEGRO ON TRUMP LIED, PEOPLE DIED, ALVARO HUERTA ON HISTORIC ETHNIC STUDIES LAW, MARK GUERRERO ON MALO’S ARCELIO GARCÍA AND IT’S HATCH CHILE HARVEST TIME WITH GREAT VIDEOS!
Hijole, my people! Can you imagine, the Covid and now raging fires and smoke throughout the West Coast! But we’re happy that our bloggers are not being stymied by all of these catastrophes. This week Sal Baldenegro responds to the publication of the new book by veteran journalist Bob Woodward, RAGE, or as Sal puts, “Trump Lied and People Died.”
Alvaro Huerta returns with his Fierce Politics column this week celebrating the passage of a new law requiring all students who graduate from a school in the Cal State system to have had a course in ethnic studies. Alvaro clues us in on what this will mean for the future and reminds us that Ethnic Studies is really American Studies.
Mark Guerrero celebrates the life and music of the late , great Arcelio García, who was the lead vocalist for the group Malo. In Mark’s interview with Arcelio they also play such classics as “Nena” and the ubiquitous “Suavecito.” Check it all out!
And let’s not forget this is Hatch chile season! Some of you are used to attending a pelada around this time of year but the Covid is making that impossible. But there’s still great Hatch chile to be had and we are reposting three great videos for chile season. Check out: Hatch Chile Capital of the World, La Pelada, and Great Green Chile recipes.
Enjoy your week on Latinopia!
