THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: JUAN GONZÁLEZ ON PUERTO RICO’S ECONOMIC CRISIS, EDUARDO DÍAZ ON TELL IT PLAIN ABOUT LYNCHING OF MEXICANS, JUAN AUGUSTÍN MÁRQUEZ ON THE LAST COLONY AND ALFREDO SANTOS WITH SEPTEMBER’S LA VOZ.
Hola Latinopians. This week we have the first of an original Latinopia two-parter on the Puerto Rican debt crisis and what it portends for all of America. In this first video Juan González, author and co-host of the news program Democracy Now, opines on what brought Puerto Rico to its current financial quagmire. Next week, he’ll offer what he sees as necessary to bring Puerto Rico out of its crisis, a crisis fomented by policies of the United States government. Also pertaining to Puerto Rico, we reprise Juan Augustín Márquez speaking about his major documentary on the Puerto Rican crisis, The Last Colony.
Our regular blogger Eduardo Díaz returns, this week looking at a controversial exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum which tackles the issues of lynching in America but somehow manages to overlook the lynching of Mexicans. Check out Edo’s blog, “Get it right and say it plain.”
Also this week, our regular blogger Alfred Santos, from Austin Texas, returns with highlights of this month’s La Voz magazine.
