With the start of previews of the revival of the acclaimed Broadway play Zoot Suit, we celebrate by posting an interview with the show’s creator and director, Luis Valdez. In this dual interview, Valdez reflects on why the iconic pachuco personage has such power and how he came to cast Edward James Olmos as the pachuco. Also this week, an original interview with acclaimed late poet and artist José Montoya as he reflects on the discrimination and scapegoating of Mexican Americans youth by police authorities. The young Mexican Americans , who called themselves Chicanos, were often beaten and brutalized for wearing the stylized zoot suits.
And no week on Latinopia would be complete without Serg Hernández weighing in on the current Trump antics. This week Serg looks at Trump’s advisor, Kellyanne Conway.
