In 1929, three Texas civic groups, the Order of the Sons of America, the Knights of America and the League of Latin American citizens merged to create the United League of Latin American Citizens (LULAC). In response to widespread discrimination and segregation, LULAC was created to fight these injustice and defend the rights of Mexicans born in the United States.
