During the 1930s, in the shadow of the Great depression, massive numbers of Mexicans who had lived in the United States for years were deported to Mexico. Their children, who were born in the United States, were also deported. For these children of Mexican descent, the deportations constituted an illegal, and unconstitutional deportation from their own country to a foreign land. Dr. Francisco Balderrama has co-authored a book, Decade of Betrayal, that explains the 1930s Deportation or “repatriations” as they are sometimes known.
