Welcome To Latinopia - Latino Arts History & Culture

Welcome to Latinopia.com, the premiere site for Latino history, art, music, literature, theater, cinema and food in the United States!

Latinopia is dedicated to utilizing the internet to celebrate, promote and archive the very best of Hispanic / Latino cultural expressions and history in the United States.  Latinopia recognizes that the United States of America will become a better nation because of the contributions made by citizens whose parents may have originated in countries like Mexico, Cuba, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Venezuela, Chile, Argentina, Brasil, Uruguay and Colombia.

Latinopia is fundamentally a video-driven site. Currently you will find videos on a range of topics in Latino life, culture and art.

In the Latino history area you will find videos of important historical events in Chicano and Latino life, and also historical timelines, biographies and documents as well as profiles of important Chicano, Puerto Rican and Cuban American leaders and historical figures.

In the Latino literature area, you will find a timeline on the emergence of Chicano, Puerto Rican and Cuban-American literature in America. You will also find listings of Latino books and interviews with important Latino writers such as Rudolfo Anaya, Sandra Cisneros, Dagoberto Gilb, Victor Villasenor, Pat Mora, Judith Ortíz Cofer, Nicholasa Mohr, Denise Chavez, Luis J. Rodriguez and many more. Latinopia Word features videos of Latino writers reading from their own works, augmented by footage that brings these works to life.

In the Latino art section, you will find interviews with Chicano, Puerto Rican and Cuban American artists, painters and muralists such as Gilbert “Magu” Lujan, Ester Hernández, Frank Romero, Yolanda López, César Martínez, Rupert García, José Montoya, Gronk, Judy Baca, Carmen Lomas Garza, Zarco Guerrero and many more.

In the Latino theater section, you will find “In their own words” interviews with Chicano, Puerto Rican and Cuban American playwrights, actors and stage directors. You will also see excerpts from plays written performed and directed by Latinos in such cities as New York, Los Angeles, San Antonio, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Plays like “Crystal City 1969,” “Gaytino,” “Regeneración,” and many more.

In the Latino music section, you will find interviews with leading Chicano, Puerto Rican and Cuban musicians such as Los Lobos, Little Joe and La Familia, Flaco Jimenez as well as performances by such groups as Mitote, Los Pochos, La Santa Cecilia, Ozomotli, Olmeca, and many others.

In the Latino cinema and television section you will find interviews with leading Latino actresses and actors such as Hector Elizondo, Lupe Ontiveros, Jimmy Smits, Edward James Olmos, America Ferrera, Evelina Fernandez and many others.

In Latino Food, you will recommendations on the best places to eat Mexican food and Latino food in major cities of the United States. You will also find “how to” videos on making great Mexican food such as enchiladas, guacamole, Spanish rice, salsa as well as Puerto Rican and Cuban American cuisine.
