A potpourri this week. We begin with Ricardo Romo’s Tejano Report on a new exhibit at the Centro Cultural Aztlan in San Antonio highlighting the porcelain art of Gricelda Corpus Nill and the landscape imagery of Raul Servin. Cool stuff. The porcelain art will make you ask, “can you really do that with porcelain? Check it out!
Also this week El Profe Quezada recalls the legendary South Texas border boss Manuel B. Bravo. Bravo was a real presence in South Texas and Texas politics. And El Profe ought to know. He wrote a book on about it: Manuel Bravo Border Boss and Zapata County. El Profe gives us the whole run down on Bravo along with archival photos.
We repost a music video the performer Olmeca whose song “No Vengo Solo,” (I am not Alone) is particularly timely in the moment of Trump inspired ICE raids on our Mexican and Latino communities. Listen to the words of this powerful song.
And lastly, poet Olga Garcia Echeverria read her poem, “Lengualistic Algo.”
Enjoy your week on Latinopia!
