THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: YOLANDA NAVA ON HER BOOK THROUGH THE DARK. ALSO, YOLANDA NAVA’S JOURNEY THROUGH DARKNESS, CHRISTINE GRANADOS READING FROM “FIGHT LIKE A MAN,” AND ALBERTO RIOS ON HOW TO WRITE A POEM.
Hola mi gente! Your Tia Tenopia here. This week we celebrate writers. We begin with acclaimed on-camera journalist, author and social activist Yolanda Nava who in 2009 suddenly lost her vision. She has now written a book, Through the Dark, about her experiences losing her sight and her long struggle to learn new skills and create a new life for herself. We have two video interviews with Yolanda. In the first she speaks about her book, how it came about and the skills she had to learn to bounce back from a terrible tragedy. In the second video, she speaks about what has sustained her through her ordeal and how her experiences may offer inspiration and help to other facing physical, emotional or mental challenges. These are truly inspirational videos, not to be missed.
Also this week, we hear from Texas author Christine Granados, who reads the short story “Address Book.” This story is from her second collection of short stories, Fight Like A Man and other Stories We Tell our Children. The story is a remembrance of her mother’s address book and what it meant.
And what about poetry? Well we hear from poet and short story writer Alberto “Tito” Rios who talks about what inspires his poems and how he goes about writing a poem. Check out his,”How to write a Poem.”
Enjoy your week on Latinopia!
