THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: HAPPY NEW YEAR! XOCHITL LAS PESTAÑAS AND HER WISH FOR THE NEW YEAR, RICARDO ROMO’S TEJANO REPORT ON THE MEXICAN TRADITION OF LOS VOLADORES, AND ARNIE AND PORFI ON NEW YEAR’S BEST WISHES.
Hola Latinopians! Here we are at the end of another year. A time for reflection, for sure. This week we post another guest blog by Xochitl Las Pestañas. She comments on one of her pet peeves, how the media has , until very recently, reported in an asymmetrical manner reflects on the terrible Israeli Gaza War. Check out her blog and her wish for the New Year.
Also this week, Ricardo Romo returns with his Tejano Report. this week he looks at the Mexican tradition of voladores. These are the incredibly talented athletes that dance and then hang from a pole and swing in the wind. Incredible to see. Ricardo gives us their origin story and how the tradition continues to the present. Check out his piece on los voladores.
Kastly, we end this year with reposting one of the late cartoonist Sergio Hernandez’s Arnie and Porfi cartoons. This one, of course, on their best wishes for a New Year!
Enjoy and we’ll see you next year!
