Hola mis compañeros. This is a sad week at Latinopia. Our dear friend Rudolfo Rudy Anaya passed away this week. Rudy was truly one of a kind, a giant of a humanitarian and a gifted writer whose novel Bless Me Ultima has become required reading in classrooms across the United States. He wrote novels, short stories, plays and children’s books and was the recipient of numerous lifetime achievement awards including the National Humanities Medal.
In our Latinopia Plática videos Pat Mora, an acclaimed writer in her own right and Michael Sedano, editor of the blogspot La Bloga, share their remembrances of Rudy and speculate about his lasting legacy on Latinos and the national literary scene. We also post special videos of Rudy Anaya reflecting on his life’s journey and the afterlife. Also Rudy Anaya speaking about his classic work, Bless Me Ultima and Rudy speaking about one of his most recent novels Randy Lopez Goes Home. Check out the other videos on Latinopia this week with Rudy speaking about writing, poetry and Aztlan.
Also this week, it’s 4th of July! But at a time of a coronavirus pandemic and a national Black Lives Matter movement, what does the 4th of July, Independence Day, really mean? Our two Latinopia Pláticas address the questions of What does July 4th Mean today? And Is July4th still relevant?
Check out this week’s provocative and thoughtful videos about our lives and the future of our country.
