THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: CLASSIC CHICANO ROCK: TIERRA, CHICANO MUSIC CHRONICLES SHOWCASES STEVE SALAS, STEVE SALAS REMEMBERS, AND CANNIBAL AND THE HEADHUNTERS.
A week of classic Chicano rock! This week we showcase singer/performer Steve Salas, co-founder with his brother Rudy Salas, of the renowned music band Tierra. The group is best known for their rendition of “Together” which became a top hit in the 1982. Since then both brothers have continued in their musical careers, at first jointly and more recently as individual acts. But before the success of Tierra, multi-talented Steve Salas faced a hard decision. He was awarded a full scholarship to prestigious Stanford University. Should he follow the career of a scholar or stick with the passion of his life, his music? Check out this new interview with Steve as he remembers.
Also this week we reprise an interview with both Steve and Rudy about the success of their hit “Together” which features Steve as lead singer.
And, staying with the theme of classic Chicano music, check out Hector Gonzalez as he recalls how the group Cannibal and the Headhunters came up with the iconic “Na, na na na NA!” music rift.
Enjoy your week on Latinopia!
