THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: RICARDO ROMO’S TEJANO REPORT ON THE FILM THE SHADOW OF THE SUN, THE ART OF LINDA VALLEJO, SANTA BARRAZA ON “NEPANTLA” AND AMALIA ORTÍZ READS “I REMEMBER, ”
We got film, art an dlilterature this week. We begin with Ricardo Romo’s Tejano Report. This week he looks at the film The Shadow of the Sun co-written and directed by Venezuelan filmmaker Miguel Angel Ferrer. The film, set in rural Venezuela, centers on two brothers trying to make a go of life and protecting each other in the process.
Next we report an interview with Southern California artist Linda Vallejo as she talks about her imagery based on oaks and nature. Stunning stuff, check it out.
And then we go to Texas where we find artist Santa Barraza as she explains the concept of “Nepantla.” In her art she unites Pre-columbian iconography with more modern themes in a form of mestisaje.
Also this week we visit with poet Amalia Ortíz as she reads the poem “I Remember.”
Enjoy your week on Latinopia.
